In 1986, 43 miles of track was secured by the
New Hampshire Northcoast Railroad [NHN] on the former
Boston and Maine Conway Branch. Today the line is built to class 3
freight standards, but that wasn't the way it started out at the
beginning. The NHN built facilities in Ossipee and a remote
plant in Rochester that sells sand to area contractors. Along
with a large propane facility in Rochester, the NHN does business with
HarMac Steel & Rebar at their Ossipee unloading facility and in
Rollinsford a used oil recycling company owned by Green View Technologies
fills their customer list.
The NHN has a fleet of three locomotives and one rental unit along with
70 plus hopper cars and one caboose completes their roster.
So if you are ever in the New Hampshire area and want some coverage
of a great shortline, this is the line to follow for the day. The crew is
